Richard Thomas Griffiths OBE (July 31, 1947-March 28, 2013) was an English actor of stage, screen, and television. He was appointed an OBE by Queen Elizabeth II in 2008

On stage, he was seen in the West End and Broadway revivals of the play Equus with his Harry Potter co-star Daniel Radcliffe, The History Boys, where he earned a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play as well as the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Play and reprised the role for the 2008 film adaptation
