Movin' Out is a conceptual dance musical, with a plot constructed around songs by the popular musician Billy Joel, as conceived and choreographed by Twyla Tharp. The action, set surrounding the Vietnam War, takes place through dance without dialogue, and the music is performed by a band, led by a vocalist/pianist, who play a level above the theatrical action.
